Every Woman Is A Feminist

A few weeks ago, I had the pleasure of taking part in a video project #FeministEnough,  a video-based storytelling experience of women that "seek to redefine feminism for women of color worldwide and inspire a new generation of smart, whole, fiercely feminist girls."  One of the great things about being a woman today is we can completely define and redefine our lives, career, love lives, and sexuality as we see fit. We are all feminists just in how we choose to live our lives. From house moms to career women, we are all feminists because we are living our truth. We are feminists as women by simply honoring our calling.

Dove Helps Girls Become Unstoppable

Did you know that 6 in 10 girls say they stop doing what they love because they feel insecure about their looks?

The staggering-and rather disturbing-statistic comes from findings released from Dove (Unilever), who were then inspired to reach girls with quality content that counteracts negative media messaging. Dove wants to reinforce young girls' self-esteem and celebrate girls who never stop doing what they love. The "Dove Self-Esteem Project" launched a major new campaign this weekend on top of the Empire State Building to reach millions more girls with self-esteem programming, with support from some of my favorites, journalist Lisa Ling and actress KeKe Palmer.  The goal of the program is to reach 15 million young lives by the end of 2015 with self-esteem programming according to the company's press release.

Annie Lennox is one of the most striking women in music history to me. With a career spanning over four decades, her groundbreaking, electro-soul sound as one part of the duo Eurythmics defined a sound-and look-for pop icons thereafter. Lennox's bold. androgynous look was way ahead of it's time and absolutely timeless in my opinion. Now in her 50's, Lennox looks more stunning than ever; her skin is absolutely aglow.

But what's even more is her commitment to human rights as an outspoken AIDS/HIV activist and UN Ambassador. 

On when she decided to become an AIDS activist via Oprah.com:

"That moment, as I listened to Nelson Mandela,  propelled me forward. I evolved from being a singer-songwriter-performer-mother-woman to being an activist."

The British singer's audacious wardrobe are the subject of a six-month-long art exhibition in the UK. The  House of Annie Lennox will be showing from September 15 through February 26 at the Victoria and Albert  museum in London.

I for one can appreciate a woman who is comfortable enough in her own skin to wear more genderless gear. Lately I have been toying with different ways of incorporating  menswear into my everyday look...such a departure from my normal style, and I can't wait to rock it.
